But every so often we need to use a new drawing. We can choose File and New, use the Mac OS X shortcut Command + M. This brings up the Select Template dialogue box. Its default is to the template location that's set in your application preferences. Think of templates like a piece of paper. A blank piece of printer paper is like a blank template.
You can also have paper with grid lines or lined paper for writing. These are like custom templates. They already have preprinted lines on them, so you don't have to start from scratch every single time.
Templates can include your layers, title blocks, other geometry, or information that you use all the time. AutoCAD for Mac also has a few preconfigured templates for you to use. These include Imperial and Metric versions of architectural and manufacturing drawing sets.
